Pervez Musharraf arrested over killing of former Baloch leader

Police in Pakistan have arrested former Pakistan Army Chief Pervez in connection with the killing of former Governor of Balochistan Province Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Mr Bugti was killed by the Pakistani military in August 2006 in a crackdown ordered by Musharraf, who was President and Army Chief at the time.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources.

His arrest comes a day after the former military dictator was granted bail in another case involving the removal of several senior judges by Musharraf back in 2007.

Mr Musharraf will remain under house arrest at his farmhouse near Islamabad.

The retired general was first arrested in April, weeks after he returned to Pakistan after four years in self-imposed exile.

He'd hoped to make a political comeback, but authorities did not let him contest the May 11 elections.
