Anurag Kashyap’s New Year has begun as he left his exceptional 2012 after the director and producer was named as a jury member of America’s pre-eminent independent film festival, Sundance.
Kashyaps’ critically acclaimed gangster epic ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ will also screen at the Festival.
He is set to join Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki and American film producer Joana Vincent, director of the Independent Filmmaker Project, on the World Cinema Dramatic category.
Kashyap’s appointment tops a fabulous year for the director considered to be the leading supporter of independent cinema in India.
Whilst his 2012 directorial venture ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was a commercial and critical success, screening at Cannes, Toronto and at the London Indian Film Festival, his production credits of the year included festival favourite ‘Michael’, starring Naseeruddhin Shah, Qaushik Mukherjee’s psychedelic ‘Tasher Desh’, historical drama ‘Chittagong’ and India’s first foodie movie ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’.
Kashyap’s next project will be ‘Bombay Velvet’, another gangster drama, this time based in Mumbai and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 17 – 27 in Park City, Utah, USA.
