Appeal for witnesses after suspected arson attack on West London Hindu Temple

Police patrols in Hillingdon, West London have been stepped after a fire at a Hindu temple in the area which police believe was the result of an arson attack.

Whilst police have refused to say whether the attack on the Adhya Shakti Mataji Temple was race-related, investigators have reportedly found traces of inflammable liquids at the scene.

Police were called in by the London Fire Brigade to the scene in the early hours of the morning.

The main temple structure escaped any major damage in the fire but a temporary building adjoining it was destroyed.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Turner the Standard: “We would appeal for anyone who was in the Cowley High Street area and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to call us.

“We have spoken to a number of people in the area and continue to liaise closely with members of the Adhya Shakti Mataji Temple.

“We have already introduced additional patrols for the area and we would like to reassure the local community, and those who worship at the Temple that we are treating this case seriously.”
