A slew of Bollywood stars are set to join their British counterparts as renowned Indian designer Manish Malhotra stages his first catwalk show in the UK, Saturday 23rd February.
The show – in aid of The Angeli Foundation – will see the likes of Ishaqzaade star Parineeti Chopra and veteran actress Urmila Matondkar rub shoulders with Meera Syal, Adil Ray and Laila Rouass among others.
Designer Malhotra incidentally burst on to the Bollywood scene after designing the costumes for Matondkar’s iconic ‘Rangeele’.
According to reports, Malhotra – designer to stars ranging from Aishwarya Rai to Demi Moore – has also lined up several ‘surprise’ personalities from Bollywood who will add to the evening’s glamour quotient.
The glitz is all in aid of a worthy cause; The Angeli Foundation works to ‘Save the Girl Child’ and redress the balance for women who are treated as second-class citizens throughout their lives. From female foeticide to limiting healthcare and education in favour of male siblings, to bride burnings, unreported rapes and acid attacks, inequality in India exists from womb to woman.
Ratika Puri Kapur, chair of the UK Chapter of The Angeli Foundation said of the celebrity support: “We are very excited that Parineeti and Urmila have both agreed to come to our fundraiser and walk the ramp! I am sure they will be the showstoppers on the night.”
Proceeds from ticket sales and an exclusive live auction will go towards a girl’s education program and sponsoring mobile medical clinics at girls’ schools.
