Bollywood reacts with shock at death of young British Indian starlet

Bollywood has reacted with shock after news emerged overnight that aspiring British-Indian actress Jiah Khan has committed suicide.

Khan, 25, who was born in New York but raised in England before travelling to Mumbai to forge her career reportedly hanged herself at her residence in Juhu, months after shifting to the city permanently with her mother, actress Rabiya.

Also known by the name Nafisa Khan, the actress made her Hindi film debut in 2007 opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial Nishabd, a remake of American Beauty. 

Khan received a Filmfare nomination for Best Debutant for her role in the film.

She also appeared opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini and Akshay Kumar in Housefull. She also got a Filmfare Best Debutant Nomination. A shocked Bollywood expressed their grief on the death of the young actress on Twitter.

Scores of actors took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness over the young actress' death.

Amitabh Bachchan: "WHAT ...!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable!!!"

Arshad Warsi: "Shocked to hear about Jiah Khan, she was too young to give up on life...RIP"

Kunal Kapoor "So shocked and saddened by this terrible news!! May your soul find peace #Jiah khan"

Mika Singh: "Very sad and very bad news for all of us jiah khan is no more .. R.I.P Jiah Khan.."

Chitrangda Singh "R.I.P. Jiah khan ... Saddest news .. May god find her a happier place ... Bless her ..my prayers ..love!"

Kunal Kohli "What she must've gone thru to take such a step we'll never know. May her soul rest in peace. Jiah Khan."

Farah Khan who had worked with her in Housefull wrote, "CAN'T register that jiah is no more...worked with her in Housefull n she was so beautiful n such a good soul.2 young 2 go jiah."

Riteish Deshmukh responding to the news wrote, "Nothing worse than waking up to bad news- shocked n dumb struck- RIP Jiah." He went on to add, "Worked with Jiah in Housefull- she was full of life n had incredible sense of humour. She was a friend n will miss her. Am deeply saddened."
