The mother of tragic British-Indian Bollywood starlet Jiah Khan has made a fresh call for an investigation into her daughter's death after carrying out a "sting operation" which she said proves that Jiah was murdered.
Rabia Khan is said to have made secret recordings of conversations with several key witnesses that her lawyers claim differ from those statements recorded by police soon after her daughter was found hanged inside her apartment in Mumbai's Juhu area last June.
At the time investigators concluded that Jiah had taken her own life after her relationship with boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi - son of Bollywood star Aditya Pancholi - had become strained.
Rabia however has maintained that her daughter had been murdered, telling the UKAsian last year that she had showed no signs of depression or anxiety in the days leading up to her death.
Mrs Khan also alleges that police officials overlooked several key pieces of evidence - including several physical clues suggesting that Jiah had been murdered prior to the killers making it look as though she had taken her own life - in a bid to protect what she called "powerful" elements within the Bollywood film industry.
She also cited a letter, allegedly written by Jiah prior to her death, in which she details the troubled relationship with Sooraj Pancholi.
On Saturday Mrs Khan filed a petition at the Bombay High Court calling for a 'Special Investigation Team' to once again take up the matter.
Mrs Khan's lawyer IANS: "We have recorded conversations of the witnesses and it is different from the statement recorded by the police.
For the last four months, we have been doing investigation and sting operations personally. The result in the material collected by us indicates it is not a case of suicide."
Jiah's former boyfriend Sooraj is currently out on bail after being charged with "aiding and abetting" in her suicide.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
