Honey Singh in hot water over "I am a rapist" lyrics

Punjabi mega-star Honey Singh has been censured by police in the state for lewd lyrics.

A police official told the Times of India that a case had been brought against the singer under the Indian penal Code for "singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near a public place".

The singer has courted controversy for a number of months over his hit song Main Hoon Balatkari (I am a rapist) with one NGO based in the Punjab filing a formal complaint at the states' High Court.

The NGO in its complaint claimed the song projected women in poor light, promoted violence against women and even encouraged rape.

Singh claims he merely sung the song but was not responsible for writing it.
