The government has put off publishing a new report into the impact of immigration, because it was "too positive", according to the Times on Tuesday.
The 'Balance of Competencies' report explores the advantages and disadvantages of the freedom of movement of migrants within the European Union and was due to be published on Monday.
However, according to the Times, Home Secretary Theresa May is "stalling" the report because it was positive about current EU regulations regarding the movement of workers between countries.
The report was commissioned to back up Prime Minister David Cameron's plans to renegotiate agreements on migrant workers between the British government and the EU, ahead of an influx of Eastern European immigrants expected to arrive in Britain early next year.
Politicians from across the political spectrum have expressed their concern over the arrival of Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants to the UK in January when restrictions on visas are relaxed.
Others say that the current rules are advantageous for Britain as the impact on services far outweighs the economic benefits of freedom of movement.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
