#IMMIGRATION: Long-term migrants "EQUALLY CONCERNED" about immigration - Study

Immigrants who are settled in the UK are as concerned about immigration as those born in the United Kingdom, according to a new survey.

The study, conducted by Ipsos MORI, also found that the longer immigrants have lived in the UK, the more concerned they are about immigration.

The study found that 70 per cent of people who came to live in the UK before 1970 believe that immigration needs to be “reduced a lot” or “reduced a little”.

Seventy seven percent of all people in the UK also beleived that there should be a reduction in immigration. However, two thirds of immigrants who arrived in the UK between 2001 and 2005 said they were not concerned about immigration.

The survey comes after Britain lifted restrictions on the movement of migrants from Romania and Bulgaria on 1 January which had led to concerns that Eastern Europeans would overwhelm public services.

The report also shows that immigration has only become an issue of concern during the past 20 years, and barely registered as a national concern before 1990.
