Four months after daughter was found hanged inside her apartment in Mumbai, Jiah Khan's mother has alleged that the British-Indian actress may have been murdered.
Rabia Amin has reportedly filed a petition at the High Court demanding that India's Central Board of Investigation open a fresh inquiry into her daughter's death claiming that the original investigators had overlooked several key lines of inquiry as the police wanted the matter "hushed up".
Jiah, 25, was found hanged by her mother and sister on the night of 3 June in the actress' apartment in Juhu, Mumbai.
A letter, purportedly written by Jiah and released to the media by Rabia, accused her then boyfriend Suraj Pancholi - son of actor Aditya Pancholi - for driving her to take her own life owing to his infidelities.
In her new petition, Rabia claims that police refused to investigate injury marks on Jiah's body and that the investigation was carried out in a manner that "ensured that the truth did not come out".
She also states that the police adopted a "lethargic and biased approach" to benefit Mr Pancholi who was accused of "abetting" in Jiah's suicide. Rabia claims the senior investigating officer, Additional Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil had "succumbed to pressure from Mr Pancholi's "influential" family to tie-up the case in haste.
Ms Amin provided the Mumbai Mirror a copy of the petition along with numerous photographs taken soon after Jiah's body was found.
