Acclaimed actress and director Nandita Das has confirmed she will be appearing in 'Traces of Sandalwood', an English and Spanish-language drama directed by Catalan director Maria Ripoll.
Das, 43, will appear alongside husband Subodh Maskara in the film which is adapted from the novel of the same name by Asha Miro and Anna Soler-Pont.
The story follows an orphaned Indian girl who works her way up from being a domestic servant to a Bollywood actress, but is desperate to re-unite with her long lost sister in Spain.
Das is best known for her roles in 'Fire' and 'Earth', the first two parts of Deepa Mehta's award-winning 'Elements Trilogy', as well as for her directorial debut 'Firaaq', a story set in the immediate aftermath of the 2002 Gujarat riots and exploring the impact of the violence on the lives of ordinary people.
The film will be an international co-production, most likely with an Indian company, and will shoot between Mumbai and Barcelona in both English and Catalan with Indian and Catalan actors in the cast.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
