Prithviraj named 'Best Actor' at Kerala State Film Awards

Hunky 'Celluloid' star Prithviraj and 'City of God' actress Rima Kallingal have won the top individual awards at the 2012 Kerala State Film Awards held in Thiruvananthapuram.

Prithviraj, 30, won Best Actor for his turn as Malayali film pioneer J C Daniel in Celluloid, which was the big movie winner of the night as well, receiving Best Picture.

Kallingal, 29, bagged the Best Actress award for her role as a rape victim in '22 Female Kottayam'.

The awards were announced by state Cinema Minister K B Ganesh Kumar.

“This year the jury had a tough job with 84 films to be seen, the highest ever entry for awards. They finished their job only early yesterday at 5am,” said Kumar.

The award was Prithviraj's second Best Actor nod, after Vaasthavam in 2006.

Lal Jose received the best director award for the film Ayalum Njanum Thammil and popular comedian and character artist Salim Kumar won the best comedian award.

Vijay Yesudas, son of veteran singer K J Yesudas won the best male singer award, while new singer Sithara got the best female playback singer award.
