Premier League side Reading have made a $1m bid for Goa-born footballer Brandon Fernandes, according to a report in espnstar.com.
If the deal goes through, Fernandes, 19, will become the first Indian player to sign for a Premier League side.
Speaking to ESPN Star, Fernandes said: "It is a great honour to have had a trial with Reading and [if a deal can be reached] I will be very happy to play for them.
"I have been training with the club's under-21s which is a good experience. I think that if I want to move to England I need to match their players physically."
The Midfielder had been on a two-week trial with Reading FC earlier this season before he was invited for another trial at Second Division side Leicester City which is also said to be interested in the player but may not offer as big a pay packet.
"There are a lot of Indian supporters in Leicester so if I came here (instead of Reading), I am sure I would get lots of encouragement from the fans", Fernandes added.
Fernandes, who represented India at both the Under-17 and Under-19 levels, has been attached to the ASD Cape Town football academy in South Africa for the past two years after he impressed scouts at a Manchester United Soccer Skills tournament.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
