#Terror: Malala’s horror at Peshawar massacre as India pledges solidarity with #IndiaWithPakistan

Last week, Pakistani Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai broke down at the sight of the blood splattered uniform she was wearing the day she was attacked by the Taliban displayed at a peace exhibition in Oslo, Norway.

A similar horror returned to her motherland as more than 100 children were massacred by Taliban militants who stormed a military-run school in the city of Peshawar early on Tuesday morning.

Malala said she was "heartbroken" by "the senseless and cold blooded" killings.

"I am heartbroken by this senseless and cold blooded act of terror in Peshawar that is unfolding before us.  Innocent children in their school have no place in horror such as this," Malala said in a statement.

"I condemn these atrocious and cowardly acts and stand united with the government and armed forces of Pakistan whose efforts so far to address this horrific event are commendable."

The Pakistani Taliban or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was in retaliation for a major military offensive in Pakistan’s restive northeastern Waziristan province, close to Peshawar.

More than 140 people in total are now believed dead in the attack which has drawn worldwide condemnation.

Meanwhile Pakistan’s long-standing differences with neighbouring India seemed to be momentarily set aside as thousands of Indians expressed their shock at the attack and pledged solidarity with their counterparts.

The Twitter hashtag #IndiaWithPakistan began trending across South Asia hours after the attack with many in India even offering to donate blood.

The hashtag was the idea of businessman Tehseen Poonawalla and it soon took off.

#IndiaWithPakistan follows #IllRideWithYou which sprang up in the wake of the hostage crisis in Sydney on Monday.

In a separate development Indian Prime Minister urged schools across India to observe a two-minute silence to honour the dead.

In a statement, Mr Modi condemned the attack as a "senseless act of unspeakable brutality".
